Travelin’ Gal Must-Haves

Labor Day is almost here and many of you will be getting out of dodge for this much-needed, long weekend. Lighten your luggage and avoid over-packing by picking up these top travel must-haves! The great thing about each of these items is they have multiple uses, allowing you to pack less and have a clutter-free vacation.

Tweezers. The Tweezerman Slant, need we say more? These award-winning tweezers, featured uncountable times in style and beauty magazines, are definitely worth their weight in gold! Skip the $1.99 pair and invest in a one, or two, of these puppies ($12.50-$25). The mini tweezers are perfect for travel, come with a small tube to store, and are perfect to throw in your purse or makeup bag. Great for a quick eyebrow clean-up, to pluck out unwanted hairs (yes, we said it) or to take out that annoying splinter. Tweezerman tweezers are available everywhere (Sephora, Target, CVS, Walgreens, etc.) and are simply the best of the best!

All-in-One Stain. Bottom line, stains rock. And no, we’re not talking about the red wine you’ll spill on your white shirt this weekend. We’re talking about a lip/cheek stain that does double duty and gives you that gorgeous glow. We love Stila Lip and Cheek Stain because they come in a variety of luscious colors for only $24. These stains even react to pH levels in your cheeks and lips to create a more personalized tint.

Tinted Moisturizer with SPF. We all know by now that face moisturizer with SPF is a must for daytime. A new affordable fave of ours? Physicians Formula Healthy Wear™ SPF 50 Tinted Moisturizer, found at both Ulta and drugstores for only $14.95. This dual purpose, non-greasy formula gives a sheer, natural looking coverage, protects your face from harmful UVA/UVB rays (SP 50!) and helps prevent future UV damage – all while leaving your face hydrated. It’s also oil-free, paraben free, hypoallergenic, and dermatologist tested. You’ll feel a lot less guilty sitting out in the sun for hours!

Bobby Pins. We always forget how great these little life savers are until we need some, don’t we? Throw a sleeve of bobby pins in your bag to help you create a messy (but hot!) up-do, tame your frizz and flyaways, or to hold back that adorable little braid that’s so in right now. At the bargain price of $3 or less, you really can’t afford not to take these with you wherever you go. We love ole’ faithful, Goody Bobby Pins. See how to create three cute hairstyles using bobby pins.

If you’re willing to spend more dough for pint size travel luxuries, head on over to 3floz.com for some amazing mini finds from brands like Ahava, Tocca, Yes to Carrots, Blow and lots more.

Have a great weekend, ladies!

Julie’s (Last) Pretty Perspective

Well it’s that time again.  It is time to get back to school.  And this year I am, wait for it…a senior! Ah!  Where has the time gone?  It seems like just yesterday I was a little freshman in high school.  I wonder what twists and turns this year or even this semester has in store for me.  Each college semester has been very different, some good and some not so good.  Book smarts is not the only knowledge I have picked up along the years – I’ve had many, many life lessons!

Along with the new school year, it has come time I move along with my endeavors.  But fear not my Pretty Indy gals, I leave you in good hands!  My sorority sister Nicole Hangartner will take over the intern position and I have no doubt you will fall in love with her too!  Saying she is a fashionista is an understatement.

I hope you have enjoyed reading my posts as much as I have enjoyed writing them.  I also loved meeting all the people who came to our socials.  Your support means so much to Tiff and Kelly!  I can’t wait to see what they have up their fashionable sleeves for the upcoming months!

This is not goodbye.  I plan to fully support the Pretty Indy team for many years to come, because let’s face it, they are going places!  So, hopefully I will see you sipping on a Pretty Indy cocktail at a social in the near future.  Feel free to keep in touch and follow me on Twitter, @Jules6388.

~Julie :)

(Editor’s Note:  We sincerely want to thank Julie for the amazing job she did as our very first intern and encourage you to leave your own feedback in the comments section!)

Famous Fridays: Ashley Tisdale

This High School Musical gal is showing off her lovely and subtle ombre locks.  Ombre hair color is quite trendy for 2010- and some of the colors I’ve seen have been more severe.  I like Ashley’s gradual transition from a dark espresso at her roots to a milk chocolate color at her ends (anyone hungry now?).

Want to call this trend your own?  InStyle says to “ask your colorist for a single process hue with partial highlights on the bottom half of the strands.”

Would you gals try the ombre trend?

XOXO.

Not Just Another Pretty Pro: Courtney Zoller

Meet this week’s Pretty Pro:  Courtney Zoller of LUXE.   Courtney can work her magic on your closet as well as your personal style; seriously, this adorable gal knows her stuff.  We’ll just let her take it from here:

1. Tell us about yourself in 140 characters or less.

I am a personal shopper-stylist.  I recently returned to Indy after a decade in LA, where I attended FIDM  and worked as a stylist for both Saks and Neimans.  I do closet purges, and personal shopping trips.  My philosophy is that fashion should be attainable to EVERYONE, and I am convinced one closet purge with me is equal to one year in therapy.

2.  What, in your opinion, is special about what you offer?

I go through closets piece by piece, remove the fashion black holes, and create between 40-100 new outfits based on what the client already has!  Clients receive all images and can simply recreate them.  When we hit the shops, we have a small list of items we ACTUALLY need, or clients can go alone!  I work with women of all sizes and ages, teaching them to dress for their body type and use 100% of their closet, not 20%!!!  No more blankly staring into their closet each morning.

3.  The beauty product I cannot live without is:  High Beam by Benefit.  It actually makes me look like I might have cheekbones and creates a wonderful “dewy” finish.

4.  What is your favorite style trend for fall?

I am looking forward to the 50′s inspired silhouettes!  I have grown tired of the severe leg of the past few seasons.  I am excited to see a return to femininity and detail.  Also, these shapes are quite forgiving and look great on all women!

5.  Please keep Indy pretty, and stop:  letting your significant others leave the house dressed in Ed Hardy. I can’t get over all the Ed Hardy on the dudes out here.  The women look great and I think pleading to them is the only chance.  Not to be a jerk, but Ed Hardy is the unofficial “douchebag” uniform of our country.  Let’s hide them if we spot them on our men.

Brand We Love: Paul and Joe

Moonshadow Lipstick

I’ve always dug Paul and Joe’s beauty line – every piece has the most adorable packaging (self-proclaimed packaging addict, here).  For fall, they have released just about the cutest lipsticks I’ve ever seen.  Are they practical? Probably not.  But they look like a cat.  And who else has a cute little lipstick that has a cute little kitty carved into the tip?  At the least, it can serve as a killer ice-breaker at an awkward dinner.

My little peepers also spied P&J’s lovely foundation bottles - these are completely display worthy and would make anyone’s vanity a little prettier. The light cream promises to provide you with great hydration while giving your skin a soft and flawless finish.  Let’s be honest, the had me at the pretty bottle.

Click to get your Paul and Joe beauty booty on.

XOXO.

Famous Fridays: Madonna

Michael McDonnell/Hulton Archive/Getty Images

Ahhhh…Madonna.  The reigning pop icon turned 52 this week (August 16 – same birthday as me, not that I’m proud).  InStyle takes us on a tour of the many, many looks of Madge.

It really is amazing how Madonna manages to re-invent herself with every album/decade – whether it is musically or her look of the moment.  So we want to know – what is your favorite era of Madonna?  We can’t lie, we love the 80′s version – the music and the looks.

XOXO.

Your New Breast Friend

I received my Lush Times in the mail today and immediately began flipping through the pages – ahem, page – as I only made it to page 2.  Most of this page was dedicated to Lush’s new Lovely Jubblies Breast Cream, and I was admittedly intrigued.  This lovely fragranced cream (described by Lush as a soft and sultry floral) promises to tighten and firm the twins with meadowsweet and tiger lily petals.  As if that weren’t enough, beeswax, avocado, and almond oils are also added to soften.

So intrigued I am.  And this got me wondering – because frankly, this is not a normal topic of conversation – what do you pretty gals think about products like this?

XOXO.

Not Just Another Pretty Face: Andrea Crawford

1.  Describe yourself in 140 characters or less. Producer for Inside Indiana Business TV and its many properties.  I try to work in as many stories about food, fashion and fun as I can.  I have a not-so-secret obsession with alliteration, and I’m never serious but I like to be taken seriously.  I know that is WAAAY longer than 140.  Twitter would have cut me off halfway through.

2. If we peeked in your handbag, we would find an endless depth of goodies.  A sampling of what’s in my purse right now: wallet, glasses, chap stick (cocoa butter), sunscreen (Maui Babe – amazing), a book (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), dried cranberries, headphones and a Tide Pen.  Yes, it’s a big purse.

3. What are your top 3 beauty must-haves?
Mascara – I’m hopelessly sucked into all the mascara commercials. My long time favorite is the pink tube of Maybelline Define- A-Lash Volume mascara.

My Chi straightener – I have very thick, wavy hair. The straightener (along with my hair stylist Deanna Robbins) is a miracle worker.

Chapstick – the yellow tube of Cococare Cocoa Butter from Walgreens!

4. The trend/look I wish I could pull off is hats!  I love shopping for them, but I always feel like I’m playing dress up when I wear them.

5. On any given day, you can find me shopping at Target, Francesca’s or Nordstrom.  Now I feel the need to go shopping!
