I recently came across ModCloth.com and I just can’t seem to get enough! The company, which offers affordable, independent designer fashion online, was created in 2002 by high school sweethearts, Eric and Susan Koger. These two love birds began their business out of a shared love for retro and vintage clothing when they were both just 17 years old. In addition to the fun and fabulously mod dresses and tops I found on the site, ModCloth also offers accessories, housewares and other kitschy items that will, simply put, make you grin from ear-to-ear (check out the All up in My Mini-Grill).

The company, based out of Pittsburgh, seems to be doing everything right, too. They involve their customers in the decision making process by having a Be The Buyer section on the site where customers (that’s you!) can vote on which sample items should be created and sold. Very cool.

Lastly, I am not sure what I love more, ModCloth.com’s unique selection of indie clothing (that won over my heart and wallet!) or the fact their pug, Winston, is the brand’s team mascot. Check out the Mod Story Scrapbook to learn more about this young, hip and refreshingly cool company. Enjoy!

LORAC Gets Baked

One of my latest obsessions revolves around the LORAC collection of baked cosmetics.  I started with a Starry-Eyed Baked Eyeshadow Trio in Superstar ($25) and instantly fell in love.  LORAC’s trios are completely idiot proof and leave you with the most perfectly defined eyes.  The colors are super buildable too, so you control the drama.  I am really feeling the smoky bronze this summer – it’s a great way to emphasize your eyes while looking very natural.  I’m pretty sure I love every single baked trio available – there is not a single color combo I wouldn’t recommend.  A fantastic way to try LORAC’s baked shadows is to nab the Little Black Palette (a $72 value for $32).  You get four pretty little shadows and a mini eye primer to make sure you’re looking fab all day.   

After experimenting with eye shadows, I moved on to LORAC’s Baked Matte Satin Blush in Exposed ($24).  This perfect peachy pink screams summer, and makes your complexion glow with just the slightest sweep.  The color pay-off from these baked products is so phenomenal – they are sure to last a long time. 

LORAC also has a fabulous bronzer – the TANtalizer Baked Matte Satin Bronzer ($30).  Beyond its gorgeous bronzing capabilities, it provides you with some extra SPF (15, in fact).

Julie’s Pretty Perspective

So much is going on in the world of Pretty Indy.  If you hadn’t heard, we are throwing another party.  Stay tuned for more details-but expect more goodies, food, and drinks, and some overall “pretty” fun!  We thought it was great how much fun everyone had and it was an excellent way for people to meet and network.  Our goal is to have quarterly parties (Who can argue with that?).  This way, if you missed the fun the first time around, you have another chance.  Plus, we would love to meet you!

The second big endeavor of Pretty Indy is advertising. We are currently working on advertising on our website and newsletter.  Pretty Indy wants to highlight your beauty products or business, that’s what we are here for.  If interested, don’t hesitate to shoot us an email!

As for me, I have also been helping Kelly with some of her Klevergirl PR + Marketing clients.  I began college with my goal to be a Physician’s Assistant. I never thought I’d be pursuing a career in Public Relations, but to be honest I had no idea what I wanted to do when I got to Butler.  Both my parents’ careers are in health care so I just thought I would take that route too.  A few weeks in Chemistry steered me straight into the direction I am now heading.  Who knew that my habit to over plan things would come in handy for my career choice in PR?

Tiffany @ StellOz Salon: Before|After

A few weeks ago, the gals at StellOz Salon|Spa were kind enough to invite Pretty Indy to come in and play.  A little background on me and my hair:  I’ve always been chameleon-esque in that I love to change things up – whether that means a different color or cut.  That being said, I also firmly believe the professionals are the professionals for a reason, so I usually give them free reign.  This is exactly what I did with Jenise Norgaard, the delightfully adorable stylist in charge of my hair for the day.  Not only is Jenise so fun to chat with, she seriously knows her stuff.  I walked out of StellOz feeling as though I knew so much more about hair and the products I should be using.  Jenise decided to take my hair a bit darker (my hair is nearly black naturally), and gave my highlights more dimension.  Although I’m sporting straight hair in the after pic, I left StellOz with the most amazing loose spirals I’ve ever had in my life – and I’m not kidding, they lasted for 3 days.  I literally woke up and looked amazing (after makeup, of course).  I was also sent home with some targeted Bumble & Bumble products (new obsessions – posts to come) that I can’t get enough of.  I cannot recommend StellOz enough - do yourself a favor…give them a call and take some well-deserved time for yourself.  Oh – and make sure you indulge in that glass of wine (or beer!) they offer.

Your New Best Friend: Meet Lori

Oh, Happy Day! I just discovered that my absolute favorite store in Chicago  – Lori’s – is now online! I used to live right down the street from this fabulous boutique shoe shop in the heart of Lincoln Park. It would take every part of me not to stop in everyday on my way home from work as I’d peer through the window to view the latest and greatest arrivals.

Not only does Lori’s carry a huge selection of designer shoes, but they also have the very best selection of accessories, purses and jewelry. Product Review: Benefit Pore-fessional

Ahhhh, summer.  Gorgeous lazy days, time by the pool – and let’s not forget the amazing (HA) humidity that doesn’t seem to do anything for my already large pores.  Thank goodness Benefit is on top of things.  With The POREfessional , those once visible pores become a distant memory.  Simply apply this light and silky mousse-like cream over lightly moisturized skin – all over, or just where you need to send your pores into hiding.  It creates a smooth surface upon which to apply your makeup – only now, you look completely flawless.  I’ll call on that pore-fessional any day of the week.

Julie’s Pretty Perspective

Since being with Pretty Indy, I have family and friends asking me for advice on beauty products.  I admit that I am not all know when it comes to the world of beauty, but I do have products that I have tried and recommend.  So this week for Julie’s Perspective, I thought I would share with you what I would like to call my top 5 ‘Pretty Picks’!

1.   Olay Daily Facials Cleansing Cloths

I love to use these at night to wash off my makeup.  These easily remove eye makeup as well without the irritation that other eye makeup removers can cause.  Also, they leave my face feeling soft and the cloths even exfoliate - an added bonus!  These cloths come in combination/oily, normal to dry, and even sensitive skin.  Each is specifically suited to work with the problem areas that come with each skin type.  These cleansing cloths can be used in place of your normal makeup remover, face wash, and cleansing toner. These cloths are like 3 products in one!

2. John Frieda Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Crème

I apply this product after I have finished styling.  I hate to admit that I put my hair through constant blow drying and flat-iron torture.  I use a little dollop of this crème and it calms frizz (who isn’t dealing with this right now with this humidity?) and leaves my hair shiny and silky.  This product also states that it replaces the natural oils in your hair that is lost to constant heat styled hair (that’s me!).  The crème also contains a sunscreen to protect your hair from the sun.  You can’t forget about those little strands, they need attention too!

3.  Cover Girl Simply Powder Foundation 

I have had bad experiences with liquid foundation.  I often feel like they end up cakey on my face and feel as though I’m wearing a mask.  Therefore, I usually stick with this powder foundation for everyday use.  This powder has great coverage!  Like it says, it covers like a liquid but it really is a light powder that reduces shine and cover flaws easily.  It easily blends into my skin and I often find that I forget I even have anything on!  I love that it is a small, mirrored compact – easy to slip into any wristlet or purse to bring along for any touch-ups, but you’ll find that this foundation has all-day lasting power.

4.  Maybelline Define-A-Line Eyeliner

This eyeliner goes on smooth and easily.  With some eyeliners, I have found that it takes many tries to get the look I am going for.  Also, many types of eyeliner don’t go on as smooth and require me to press hard and sometimes I end up poking myself in the eye!  Ouch!  This eyeliner comes with a built in sharpener and smudger.  The twistable applicator has allowed me to get great use out of the product, but remember to replace your eye makeup regularly!

5. Schick Intuition Razors

I find shaving my legs to be one of the biggest pains!  Shaving cream is messy, and replaceable razors just do not do the trick of keeping the stubble away.  With the Intuition Razor, shaving has become a one-step deal in the shower.  The replaceable razor heads have built in conditioners that lather up – you will find that you will never need shaving cream again!  The razor head’s surrounding conditioner leaves my skin not only smooth, but soft and moisturized.  You will have to buy the actual razor (with many colors and patterns to choose from), but then replaceable packs of the razor heads are the only things you will need to purchase after that.  Break free from shaving cream and disposable razors!

Want to know another great thing about these products?  They can all be found at Target or any other drug store!  I am all about the simple stop at Target and getting everything I need in one place at a great price – wait, who am I kidding?  A stop at Target is not simple.  I go with a list and always end up with more than I needed – anyone with me?
