Product Review: Stila Lip Stain

Have you noticed the number of lip stains on the market lately?  Admittedly, I steered clear of stains for one simple reason: They scared me.  I had horrifying visions of myself with some god-awful lip color that I couldn’t remove, because – well – it’s a stain.  But then I saw Yumberry Crush Lip Stain by Stila…the pen’s perfectly pearlescent pink color screamed, “BUY ME,” and so I did.  I was so excited to try it – I immediately unwrapped the pen, applied the stain to my lips, and looked in the mirror.  And this is where the tutorial begins – because you do not want to see what I saw looking back at me.  I quickly realized that my lips were maybe a little drier than I thought based on the heavier concentrations of color in patches on my lips….EW.  Once I learned how to use the stain correctly, I have to say….I’m sold.  So here you go, my lesson on how to achieve a perfectly stained pout.

1.  Start with a lip scrub to smooth your lips.  If you are a DIY (do it yourself)  gal, you can simply mix a little brown sugar with olive oil, gently massage on lips, and rinse off.  If you are a BIY (buy it yourself) gal, check out Korres Lemon Lip Scrub - I love it.

2.  Hydrate your lips with any lip butter or chap stick you have on hand.

3.  Paint the stain on your lips, making sure that it is even and to your desired level of color.

4.  Finish with a similarly colored gloss to polish your look, if you’d like.

Now go out there and knock ‘em dead with your uber natural looking pout…it’s our little secret.

xoxo.

And We’re Off!

Just a quick little post to thank everyone who came to our Pretty Indy Web Launch Party last night! We had such a great turnout and we couldn’t have asked for more. Everyone we met was super-sweet, supportive and looked amazing! In a perfect world, you would have been our perfect party guests!

We hoped you all had a fabulous time and enjoyed the great food and Pretty Indy cocktails from Usual Suspects and mini-cupcakes from my Mom’s bakery (aka. her kitchen! Um, they were a huge hit!). Also, I got a message that the Pretty Indy Cocktail was so well-loved, it will now be on the menu! We also want to thank all of our sponsors who were so lovely to provide gift bag and raffle items! We’ll be posting a list soon of everyone who participated and get some pictures up, too.

Thanks again for coming and have a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend!

- Kelly

Ooh La Lavera!

We recently did a spot on FOX 59 about the best sunless tanners…and I must say, the brand I got to try, Lavera, was simply amazing! I’ll admit it, I didn’t even use self tanners before this task! I have always been weary of their orange staining on my skin, uncomfortable stickiness when applying and horrid smells. But that being said…I am now hooked on this brand!

The great thing about Lavera’s Sunless Tanner is that not only does it give you a natural, steak-free glow, but it’s eco-friendly! It’s made without the chemicals and synthetic dyes that other sunless tanners often use. Lavera Sunless Tanner is made with organic jojoba oil, lavender, aloe vera and rose water – so it’s moisturizing and smells really nice, too. I am now using it twice a week and it leaves my skin looking sun-kissed and meanwhile, me feeling confident and sexy! Lavera, $24 – $26. Available at Target, Ulta and online at Lavera.com.

*All Lavera products, including the self tanners are certified natural by the BDIH, contain organic ingredients and are free of parabens and other synthetic ingredients.

Product Review: NARS Orgasm Illuminator

While I have an exorbitant amount of beauty products that I really do love, few get the MVP (most valuable product) award. For me, this highly coveted title goes to anything in Orgasm by NARS. This shade has been around for a long time, and has gotten tons of press because of its universally flattering peachy-pink shade (it looks a lot more shocking in the compact than on your skin, promise). Luckily, NARS gets it because they have released the Orgasm Illuminator. Basically, you can mix it in with your moisturizer, foundation, or primer….or you can apply directly on top of your makeup. Either way, you are left with a perfectly refreshed, glowing complexion.
The other must haves in orgasm?  Most definitely the Orgasm blush, as well as the Multiple Orgasm.  The multiple is a creamy stick that can be used anywhere on your face (hence, “multiple”), but I especially love it swiped in a little curve above the cheeks to the temples for a nice dewy glow.
You glow, girl.
xoxo.

An Eco Wrinkle Creme that Works? Yes, please!

On a recent trip to Whole Foods, I wandered into the beauty aisle and began poking around in search of an effective eco-friendly, paraben-free wrinkle treatment facial creme (say that 20 times fast!). After 15 minutes of picking up numerous eye and facial cremes, I was convinced I had no idea what I was really doing. Seeing I was completely lost, I was soon approached by an employee who lead who asked if she could help me. When I told her the type of face creme I was looking for – something not to heavy, but not too light – she swore she knew exactly what I needed. She quickly grabbed and began raving about Derma E  Vitamin A Wrinkle Treatment Creme . Of course, I just had to buy it.

So…I’ve now been using derma e for over a month now and the results are in! I am obsessed! I put this creme on after washing my face and it instantly makes me feel younger and look younger! The high potency of Vitamin A encourages cell renewal and the Vitamin E gives your skin extra moisture. I swear by this stuff and I recommend this to anyone looking to try a new wrinkle treatment creme that’s eco-friendly and that works. Did I mention that it smells is amazing, too? I can’t wait to try more products from their award-winning line.

A+ for derma e!

Yeah, That’s the (Beauty) Ticket

While I’m still trying to wrap my head around how I missed such a thing, I’ll go ahead and share this with you. I just happened upon a site called Beauty Ticket, which might just be a little slice of heaven on earth. This site offers tons of beauty products at deep discounts, as well as VIP sales you can sign up for.  Case in point, the item you see to your left is the nifty little “Beauty Guru Kit” by Smashbox (it folds up to easily fit in your purse), and it retails for $47.00.  Not so on Beauty Ticket – you pay only $24.99 on their site.

If you even remotely consider yourself a beauty junkie, you need this site.  Sign up for their e-mails and be privy to even better sales and “steals of the week.”

Good luck practicing self control……………………………………XOXO.

Figure Flattering Advice

Real Simple has a great online article about dressing to flatter your figure.  It absolutely makes sense to do so, but sometimes we just aren’t armed with the knowledge regarding how to select clothes that will make the most of what we’ve got.  This piece breaks it down and tells you what to go for and what to avoid for each body type.

Read it, then work it.

XOXO.

Pretty Indy Talks Sunless Tanners

FOX59 was kind enough to allow Pretty Indy some time to share our thoughts on some of the best sunless tanners on the market.  We had a blast with Angela Ganote, and yes, she basically told me that I’m pale….hence, the sunless tanners.  :)  Enjoy the clip and check our site as we’ll be adding more information about each product.
